France is probably the leader today for making "disturbing, graphic" horror films... recent ones (since 2000) include "High Tension", "Martyrs" and "Inside".
Also many great older horror flicks have come out of France as well... "Les Diaboliques", "Eyes Without A Face", "Daughters Of Darkness", "Possession" and "Baby Blood" to name a few.
I just watched this now and it did absolutely nothing for me.

I had Japanese with the undisputed title
Japanese beat the spirit realm over the head, and do it well, but the french make films that actually get under your skin because they touch on subject matter that can really happen.. I prefer the French over just about anyone in the horror genre..
