The sponge baths make sense. Probably to prevent infections. The feedings make sense. To keep her alive. But why would they give her a comfort item like a mattress? That doesn't make sense to me. They are supposedly feeding her suffering systematically and coldly. Just seemed out of place to me.

shareThe mattress was only shown once and imo they used it as another method of psychological torture, since she wasn't sleeping on it and like above user said, to put the comfort item in the same room but out of reach.
