Akitas and 'fetch'

I just lost my beloved dog 2 days ago to cancer.... he was the most incredible dog I've ever had. He was a Rottweiler / Akita mix (I had DNA testing done to determine his breed).

Interesting to watch this movie and hear the discussion amongst the professors about Akitas not 'fetching'. My boy did not ever fetch either.... no matter how much I tried to get him to. I did teach him to bring the newspaper in from the front yard but he would never chase a all that was thrown. I learned pretty quickly that if I threw a ball.... I would be the one going to go get it.

My dog was also terrible off-leash. Terrible in that he was independent and would go where he wanted and come only when he felt like it. Indoors or in my backyard he was well behaved and listened to my every command... but once you got him off-leash out in the open, all bets were off.

Loved that boy with all my heart and I miss him terribly.
