The problem with dog movies...
..Is that it creates a hype for a certain breed and people start shopping around for an adorable puppy without really understanding what it takes to be a RESPONSIBLE dog owner.

shareI agree. Personally I think all dog movies should be about Labradors. If people are going to buy a dog they may as well get a mellow and friendly breed. Akitas are definitely not for everyone. But the Shiba Inu who played Hachi as a puppy was cute and I don't think they get big. Also people buy certain breeds without knowing about the health problems associated with those breeds. Most of the dogs in my local dog park are rescues that are purebreds. So people are buying dogs they are not suited to own.
Get me a bromide! And put some gin in it!
Honestly it would drive me insane if all dog movies were about Labradors. I love dogs but some of the labs I have met drive me insane and I would never ever own one(except maybe a chocolate lab...maybe...). They are very friendly dogs but I would never say they were mellow haha. I think one of the dog breeds I'm most impressed with their manner are Golden Retrievers.
shareIf we were to go down that road, I think it would be better to produce a movie about a mixed breed. An informative movie that addresses the purebred elitism mentality that society has. Mixed breeds are the first to be put down in shelters. The class system is very prevalent, even in dogs and we created that.
