I know right! I just finished watching this an hour ago and I still feel damn sad. I knew I shouldn't have watched it. :(
shareI finished it a few minutes ago and I'm still crying my eyes out. This is the saddest movie EVER!!!!!
Real love is FOREVER!!!!
I started watching it, knowing I'd have to change the channel because dog movies are more often than not inevitably SAD. I read the description and bawled my eyes out anyway.
shareWas in tears as well for the last ten minutes of the film. Great Movie!
Not the saddest movie though. Watch "the boy in the striped pajamas" and your heart will be torn to shreads (don't say I didn't worn you).
Did watch it after your post, but even if it's a beautiful yet sad story, it didn't move me to tears. The boy in the striped pajamas, that is.
shareYeah watched that movie too but as exceptional as it is, comes nowhere near to this movie. Despite knowing the back story of the concentration camps, that movie wasn't able to induce tears outta me. It was sad though.

Yes, I saw that movie also. It was more of a shock at the end than Hachi. I cried my eyes out for 10 minutes after Hachi was over.
SPOILERS
I think it would have been less sad if Hachi had actually died.

Integrity is what you do when's nobody's watching.
Me, too. It has been like an hour and a half and I can't stop crying.
**dogs really love unconditionally.
I avoided this movie for months because I knew it would be sad when I read the description. Yet, I caved and watched it. I still get sad about the movie. It should have been released to theaters.
Real love is FOREVER!!!!
I watched it last year and I still crying every time I remember the movie :'( ,I couldn't sleep at the night after movie because of crying, me dad also cried more than me :'(
shareI agree. This film, despite it's G rating is VERY mature, and VERY sad. But, I LOVED it! I have an aging dog myself, so that just added to the sadness. I LOVE this movie!
shareI watched this film last night and sobbed for hours. I have a 15 1/2 year old Lab/Shepherd mix and also had to put to rest my 13 1/2 year old Lab in June, so this film brought up all my sad feelings about Shadow and the inevitable passing of Ollie. I thought the acting was very good...Joan Allen and Richard Gere are two of my favorite actors, not to mention the three Akitas who played Hachi!. It was a moving and inspirational story about the unconditional love between a dog and his master.
shareMake sure ya take good care of your dog in his golden years. He deserves it. So many people throw dogs out when they have outlived their usefulness and exuberance its quite sad really. That kind of mentality is also transferring to people while dealing with their age old parents.

This is the only film I have ever cried at.
shareNot even with the Lion King back in '94?
I remember that, every time i watched it i had to cry, one other movie made me cry too some years ago, it's an anime called Grave of the Fireflies.
Aahhh..My favorite anime film. Lovely movie. Although the ending is revealed at the very beginning of the movie, you can still feel the onions being cut at the end.
I watch a heck a lot of movies (and a few TV shows). These are the ones that have made my vision blurry:
-Hachiko (The endless wait)
-Grave of the Fireflies (It's her complete faith in him that makes it really sad)
-Life is beautiful (The first, and the only, time that I was laughing and crying at the same time)
-The Walking Dead (Season 3, when Sarah's character dies)(The only time I cried watching a TV series)
-Serenity (An awesome action scene made me cry? I surprised myself. Maybe it was because I was a big fan of the Firefly TV show)
-Toy Story 3 (Damn that furnace scene!)
-Braveheart (When he screams FREEDOM!!! just before...)
-Taare Zameen Par (The kid running happily towards his teacher, you know what an effect he's had on the kid.)
-A Moment to Remember (One last look before...)
-Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (I usually don't like Wuxia martial-arts films, but this is a rare exceptions)
And, that's it. Those are all the movies that I have ever cried in.
AFC to PUA. That's the dream.share
Emotions are strange huh?
Sometimes they are obvious other times you don't really know why you are so touched by something, deep compassion and honesty move me quite often, i dunno why, but i'm getting more emotional as i age it seems.
I don't think it's a bad thing, it makes us more human in a way, makes us feel more alive and concerned with other beings.
I'm gonna check some of your recommendations which i've not seen before, thanks.
If compassion makes you cry, first check out Grave of the Fireflies, Life is beautiful (i.e. if you haven't seen Life is... already. Who the hell hasn't seen it already?), Taare Zameen Par (Hindi movie), and A Moment to Remember (Korean movie).
I would have added Serenity to the list, but it's actually a sci-fi adventure, not a drama, by the writer/director of Avengers and Buffy. And, I was taken by surprise, you won't be. Also, it's kind of the last episode of a 13 episode TV series. So, to have the full impact you will have to see the series first. It's similar to how you have to watch the Star-Trek TV series to feel the full impact of Spock's death in The Wrath of Khan.
KHAAAAAAAANN!!!!
Hmmm...so, honesty makes you cry? A person saying the truth makes you cry?
I'm not sure how that works. Never encountered (or noticed) it before. Can you name a film where this works, 'cause I've never seen this happen in real life.

me too I had been warned but cried and cried anyway so sad but so inspiring at the same time. Imagine a bond that strong very nicely done by all concerned....
shareI can't stop CRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYING
shareI haven't cried from a movie since watching The Fox and the Hound as a young child.
Ironically, that's also about a dog..
I spent the whole first half of the movie admiring the beauty of akita inus (I had never seen one before) and the second half sobbing and wanting to kill myself (I'm not emo...).
I don't know if I've ever cried as hard or as long as I did watching this film, and I'm a confessed movie *cryer*!
This film had me bawling!!! It just strummed some serious heartstrings, as I am a huge animal lover and especially since its based on a real story.
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."
I also couldn't stop crying during a movie, though usually I'm not a weeper. This is very touching story...
shareI knew I was going to cry at this movie, but I didn't realize how much I was going to cry! I watched it last night and bawled my eyes out, and my eyes are so puffy today, and I'm still crying when I think about it. Amazing story. The fact that it's true makes it that much more moving, and there's even a statue in place where the real Hachi waited for 9 years for it's owner to come back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D.
