Good story, less good (human) casting.

The dog story is fine and touching and all that...But the American middle class characters are so boring and hollow! In combination with the slick cinematography and music, it felt cliched. I can't believe the original Hachiko would wait 9 years for someone like Richard Gere. Now there are other earlier adaptations - one Japanese from 1988 and maybe more? - I'm going to check out those because I can't stand American middle class sentimentality.

Antiparanoia is the eerie feeling that nothing is connected to anything else

It's a good thing you weren't Gere's dog, then, since you wouldn't have been that loyal. But then you're not a dog.

Your dog will love you and be loyal to you, even if other humans think you're boring and hollow. Some love is unconditional.

People may look at you and your gf or wife and wonder "What does she see in HIM? He's so boring and hollow!" But then they assume her love is unconditional. She must see something in you.
