Did Hachi go back home after "dropping off" the professor and then return in the evening? Or did he just wait at the station all day?

But if he went home, how would he know when to go back to the station? From my understanding, dogs don't really have a concept of time, and the movie made it look like he knew exactly which was the 5 o'clock train. I'm sure the trains that the professor took to and from work aren't the only ones that stop at that station.

That was strange and it was what happened back in Tokyo in the 20's. Hachiko always appeared at the station at 5 o'clock as if he had a clock (consider that Shibuya station was much more crowded than 'Belridge'.

Maybe dogs are smarter than we give them credit for.
