Just for the record, I loved this film, but like many I was brought to tears like no other film has ever done it before, and for that very same reason I don't want to watch it for a second time. It's just way too depressing, and no matter how many times I watch it I know I will cry again.
shareThanks for the warning, I was going to watch this film but if it has a sad ending like "Old Yeller", I don't want to watch it. "Old Yeller" made me hate Disney as a child. Sometimes people need a fantasy happy ending and not a realistic ending in order to escape for 2 hours from the real world.

shareWatched it triple times and last night is the 3rd time. Shared the same feeling as you. Burst into tears again and again seeing that cute, adorable dog's sad days after his owner left. Especially when you already know the ending isn't happy, it adds more sadness.Love Japan for everything as everything in that country is uniquely beautiful, plants, animals, mountains, rivers or human beings. You wont' find Aikta's gentle, graceful or ego quality in any other breeds

It also gets me angry that they didn't show Hachi Gere's body, so he could see/smell him and know he's dead. And then MAKE the dog stay with someone to divert his attention.
I would NOT want my dogs to be that way after I die.
Knowing this was a true story just made it all the harder for me to watch.
shareWell, it's not as if they knew Hachi was going to keep looking for him. Should they have dug the guy up?
shareIt is a very painful film to experience, but it is also very beautiful – particularly the sequence toward the end where the seasons are changing around Hachi as he waits for his master to return. So I would watch it again when I'm strong enough. I'm just not there yet.
