Whatever you think of Tarantino or this movie...

...You can't deny that the build up to the head on crash, is fantastic.

Everything about the scene is cinematic perfection, from the choice of tune, to the cinematography.

But yeah, the film as a whole is a little lacking.

I totally agree, it was built to perfection. Since you brought up the crash specifically, I am interested to get your opinion on the following because I did not see this movie when it came out as part of Grindhouse. It is hard to find well-thought out answers.

Did you have sympathy for the first four girls or was their demise supposed to be a sort of guilty pleasure? In particular, I want to ask you if you felt sympathy for Jungle Julia because she was barefoot? Or was her character so off-putting that her being barefoot throughout didn't matter to you as a viewer? Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated.

Hi. I never saw the film as Grindhouse. I'm in the UK and I imported the region 1 DVDs of both films seperately, when they were released.

I wouldn't say I felt sympathy for the first four girls. It was a shock to see them wiped out halfway through the film, thinking at least one of them would survive. Jungle Julia was cool beyond belief, but I didn't really care when she died.

The thing is, both films were made as parodies of those 70s tacky low budget Grindhouse flicks, so I just kind of watched them as they were intended to be seen. Pretty hard to become emotionally involved in a parody.

My Missus bought me a DVD that was a collection of trailers for genuine Grindhouse films. Quite an interesting watch. They're probably all on youtube.
