Did Q.T...

Intentionally make the females so annoying that we would root for the bad guy? By the end i'm yelling ''Kill them!''

reply

I think that argument could certainly be made. However, I felt bad for Jungle Julia during the entire second half of the movie... She suffered such a terrible fate, especially for someone who never wore shoes and flaunted her feet.

I have a question for you. Did you feel any sympathy for Jungle Julia and her bare feet or did she have it coming by putting her bare foot out of the window?

reply

I should of been more clear..i meant mainly the second set of ladies during the final chase sequence..even though i think Vanessa Ferlito character had a little something coming for making out with that wimp(Not dying of course)

I found the females painfully annoying

What about Jungle Julia? Any sympathy for what happened to her bare foot/leg as she met her demise?

reply

It made me glad, what happened to her.

I think, apart from Arlene, the first set of girls were set up as standard slasher movie fodder for Stuntman Mike to dispose of.

The second group felt more like the kind of women you'd find in a Jack Hill film, especially Zöe and Kim.

I liked the girls in the second half up until they left their friend behind with a pervert. There was actually a missed opportunity there.

All they had to do was leave their car and maybe some wallets or jewelry behind as collateral, Lee could have been killed during that big chase which would have made it a little more believable for the other girls to seek revenge on Mike. But since they left Lee behind and they were all completely OK after the chase, it just seemed ridiculous that they chased him down, hurting at least one innocent person in the process, and beat him to death when he was defenseless. Not that it's not insanely entertaining to watch, there was just an opportunity to make the girls more likable and make the turning of the tables easier to believe.

Wow...a fellow Jack Hill afcianado! Outstanding! And, I couldn't agree more. Other than Arlene and Pam, the other characters in the first half were meh.

But the ballsy ass kicking chicks in the second half appealed to me.

I don't think he wants the audience to see his characters in such black and white terms. Although there are a couple of exceptions, I don't think he really wants us to "root for" anybody.

Often the characters in his work are horrible people; we might enjoy spending some time with them, seeing them engaged in conversation or killing time with their friends, but then they do something that's completely unforgivable, forcing the audience to question their relationship with those particular characters.
