Why wasn't it titled "Showtime?"

Is it because of the other channel being HBO's competition or is there another reason?

I believe the book in which this production is based is titled:
Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s

I'm guessing to play up on the bumble beginnings of a dynasty plus Jerry's ambitions and dreams. He probably hadn't even conjured up the Showtime it came to be

Did Pat Riley copyright it or some shit? I recall him trying to copyright Threepeat, but it was a long time ago.

Yeah, it's cus of the other premium cable channel that exists called Showtime, HBO didn't wanna confuse people, heard this directly from an interview about the making of the show.
