shareI'm watching the first episode and came here to 'complain' about it hehe
shareA lot of people have criticized his British English accent. I agree his so-called 'cockney' accent is awful as Steven Grant. I do understand why people are saying it is stereotypically offensive, but that accent is not supposed to be real anyway, Steven is just one of his 'other personalities' and is not supposed to be genuine. So it makes a lot if sense if you think about it.
shareHe's doing a pretty good Rafe Spall impression to be fair.
shareI found it distracting and I watch it with subtitles, lol.
shareThe accent is not meant to be spot on as it is an artificially affected manifestation of a character created to allow another character to cope.
It feeds into what is potentially real and not real for the D.I.D. person. It is probably more of and a trigger or clue for the audience/viewer given what we may or may not know of the "Unreliable Narrator".
It is a bit like watching the Sixth Sense and seeing that the clues were there in plain sight for us but not the character.
They don't know they are dead.
Am I the only one that found his British accent alright? Blimey! I thought it was decent and sounded the part. I can't tell the difference and sounded like your typical Brit without the more deeper accents and ones that start sounding like gibberish.
shareI was fine with it. Of course I really do not pay attention to accents as I just think "That is how that person talks" and do not think of it as an accent.
