Plot Hole?

OK first let me say that I really enjoyed this movie. It wasn't "The Godfather 2" but he was trying to be. That being said I kinda got a problem with end. "The Beatdown" was a 32 man tournament right? If the location & time was given out the night before that means that the fighters didn't have time to register or whatever right? So when Jake checks in he seems to be the last fighter to do so. What would have happen if he choose to not show up? It's not so much a plot hole as an deliberate error to make things fall into place.

Sorry, Champ. I think I ate your chocolate squirrel.

If he didn't show it would've been open season on him...and you.

I think they probably would've had subs. Other people who were willing to fight in case a few people didn't show up.

Old man, you're a pushy b*******, aren't you? But I like it! I like it.

It is a fictional movie that is somewhat fast paced. The 'Beatdown' was the final scene and not a 'real life tournament' so allowances have to be made. This final scene was all about Jake and Ryan making it to the final match. It's the only reason Jake was there. You're making an assumption that wasn't going to happen. Sometimes you have to go with the flow and enjoy.

In sports tournaments, if somebody doesn't have an opponent, and there aren't any subs, they just get a bye and move on to the next round. It's very common.

This really isn't a plot hole, Jake had been signed up to fight by his friend and only showed up because of what had happened. If he hadn't shown up the tournament would have gone on without him and their big climatic fight would have happened elsewhere like the school gym, or some other hang out spot that the kids go to.

This whole movie was a plot hole. Didn't stop me from enjoying it though.
