Should have called the Police after Max was beaten up

Tyler should have called the police right after Ryan's goons dropped the battered Max at his house. Max would tell the police that Ryan brutally beat him and would have three witnesses to back him up (Tyler, Baja and the MMA trainer). That would be more than enough to press charges.

Movie would have ended with Ryan being arrested.

Good idea dude. It would've been well worth the £5 I paid to see the film.

By your logic it would've been better if Ryan got arrested for beating up Max, but Jake and all the other fighters don't get arrested for taking part in an illegal tournament.

Keywords there being: illegal tournament. Why do you think the fighters got the venue texted to them? It's not to save money on printing flyers but so the police didn't find out about it.

The whole illegal tournament thing was absurd. No club would risk getting shut down to hold an illegal tournament like that. It's like law enforcement doesn't exist in this film.

The film could still be exciting with Ryan being arrested, mind you. Think about it, Ryan gets arrested but his Dad hires a hot shot lawyer who gets him out on bail. Ryan then goes round to Jake's house to get revenge. It could work.

If the final fight took place at Jake's house it wouldn't have had the same impact as it did. We the audience knew that Jake would have had to compete eventually. The whole movie was building up to that very moment when Jake realised he'd have to go to the tournament in order to stop Ryan once and for all.

Besides Ryan was a bully. He was pretty sadistic, he actually enjoyed seeing other people suffer. He wouldn't have stopped at Max. Baja, Charlie and the mom would all be targets. Even Roqua would probably be made a target. Unlike Jake he didn't seem to have a conscience until the very final scene we see him in.

Also you gotta remember that his father didn't seem to care that much about him. He practically humilated him in front of his friends.

If he wanted to stop Ryan once and for all he should have called the police and had him arrested. There was more than enough evidence to get him thrown in jail. Instead he plays right into Ryan's hands by going to the tournament. It would have showed Jake's character development more if he didn't take the bait but instead did the sensible thing.

All the more reason to call the police. Law enforcement > entering a tournament.

"Even Roqua would probably be made a target."

Yeah, and Roqua would've dropped Ryan's bitch ass with very little effort.

Yeah, course he'd kick Ryan's arse. But Ryan wouldn't just stop because Roqua beat him senseless, he'd probably burn the gym to the ground.

And did you not read my post. Ryan wouldn't have stopped if Jake went to the police. With the right lawyer and plenty of money Ryan would avoid a jail sentence, and nothing would change. He'd still go after Jake and his loved ones because he went to the police and get Ryan arrested.

The problem is, there is no assurance that Ryan will stop just because Jake goes to the tournament. If Jake beats Ryan in the tournament Ryan may continue to harrass him for revenge for the humiliation. If Jake loses Ryan might carry on under the belief that Jake is a wimp.

Jake should have called the police after Max was beaten up. There was more than enough evidence to get Ryan thrown in prison. There were four different witnesses, Ryan's knuckles would have been bruised and Max's blood would be on the floor of Ryan's house (I doubt Ryan and his friends would have had the foresight to clean up). Max seems to be just as rich as Ryan and being wealthy is not a get out of jail free card, especially when your victim is just as wealthy as you.

They can get around it by saying they were having sparring sessions, especially with the use of MMA gloves helping with that equation.

That is how Kimbo Slice got away with all of his Youtube bare knuckle fights. By saying that he was sparring. Especiaslly when he had that bareknuckle fight with that cop in that gym.

Plus that club obviously were not serving alcohol since they were letting kids under 18 years of age inside. So it is not as if they were being monitor like clubs which does serve alchohol.
