I just realized something funny.
Similar to how Summer tells Tom that she doesn't want anything serious, but he expects it to go there anyways, at the beginning of the movie, the first time I watched it, when the narrator says "This isn't a love story" I think I, and a lot of others thought that they would end up together anyways despite being told from the beginning that that isn't what was going to happen.
