Another way to end the film

I like the film the way it ended and wouldn't want to change it, but I keep thinking to that line where Tom's friend says to turn his situation into literature.

Therefore, just as a thought experiment, what if the end was sort of like Stand By Me and Tom was seen finishing a screenplay?

Again, I wouldn't necessarily want that, just curious if anyone else thought that.

That would have been cool if Tom was a writer instead of an architect. What I love about the ending is how Tom basically meets the female version of himself.
