Love it, Don't get how some people hate it so much

I can understand that this isn't a exciting film but hard to not be intrigued by something that is not at all typical and gives the reality of relationships. The only did I could think of that was bad, was how it could be a little dull at moments. What I like most is that it doesn't end with him getting back with Summer and that theres always someone else. In almost every love movie, we know the end, not here.

Its a really good movie

Cute movie. Joseph Gordon Levitt is always great.

As much as I like Zooey, I have to say I really didn't much for this film. The Agony Booth recap of this film pretty much sums up exactly why it didn't work for me.

reply

Oh :(. This movie is just too nice to dislike. It's funny and light.

reply

I personally liked Zooey better in Yes Man.

Plus Joseph and Zooey were very good in this and made the movie just that much more charming.

reply

same. in my top ten favourites.

I love the style and humor of this movie. That dream sequence the morning after Tom has sex with Summer is incredibly silly yet also heartwarming, and the surreal cutaway scenes like the one in the theater make me crack up, too.

People were expecting a different sort of movie. The guy and girl typically get back together in romances, and the fact that they stay apart (and that Summer ends up with a guy that the audience never even sees) ended up turning a lot of people off at the end.

reply

Nothing was reality about it. Weird how people keep saying that.

reply

Weird how you can deny it when it is so obvious.

The fact that (unlike most romantic movies out there) this isn't a typical love story is what makes it so real in its core. There are very few rom coms out there that aren't cliche and 500DOS is one of them. Both characters are their own people with their own beliefs on love that might not always go hand in hand. Just because someone is in love with you now doesn't mean they will stay in love forever. Sometimes people fall in love for different reasons or expectations that often don't pan out or crash. I can relate to it and I'm sure many others did too.

But it's so sold off as a realistic movie on relationships. You got that one part but the rest I can't see happening. Ultimately, the movie just let me down due to my own expectations.

reply

I think a lot of viewers felt let down by their own expectations, or even by not really understanding this film.

I thought it was a great film. Definitely interesting to watch with a bunch of people and see how many people buy into Tom's fantasy that Summer was ultimately a bitch for rejecting him vs a more nuanced reading.

reply

Well said. I agree.

reply

maybe they hate it because of its bad end ,however its live lads.

reply

This movie is a masterpiece.

Like most masterpieces, some people won't get it.

reply

I liked the end too.

I'm glad we got to see that Tom doesn't give up.
