Why do so many people mistake this for an MPDG movie?


Is it just cause it's got Zoey Deschannel in it? Because the movie is really a takedown of that cliche and the problems behind it.

Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything.

I agree, it's a deconstruction of MPDG.

The trailers seemed to market it as a straight example so you could probably blame that influence. One Cracked article had a section on the MPDG being an unrealistic character type and listed this movie as reference - not seeming to catch on that the movie was making the same point. Likewise Anita Sarkeesian at Feminist Frequency made another of her infamous research mistakes. She used Summer as a straight example of the character, along with Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - when both of them criticise the character.
