What happened to...

the black guy in the group? he seems to disappear in the final third of the film. he seemed the most vicious and violent without ever really saying a lot.

reply

I think there were two or three guys in the group who eventually just got out of the situation when they could and went home. The black kid was one of those.

reply

I think the black guy was the only one, besides the main evil guy, who was left alive. The girl got run over, the Asian kid was burnt, the younger guy knifed in the neck by the woman and the other white guy kicked to death by the main evil guy. I think that was the whole lot, I shall have to watch again, don't think there was anymore.

reply

No, there was another white kid left alive as well. He had light brown or blondish hair.

reply

Yeah the lanky guy with the dopey expression. Wasn't he the brother of the van driver?

In fact, didn't the black kid show up when the van driver appeared to pick up his brother. Could have sworn he was there.

Remember Jenny goes into a car with the brother of the kid she killed.
When they drive, they reach their meeting point and the kid steps out of the car, that's when Jenny takes the car and drives it away.

If you'll notice, right before she drives away, you can see the brother (who brought the car) talks to two kids and tells them about this lady and her story. That's what gets her to panic and drive the car.

Those two kids are the black kid and the scared other white kid.

Didn't the Rayban sunglasses kid beat a child to death, and burn another child alive? I'd say he is definitely the most vicious and violent of the group.

reply

I'm not sure about that, the black kid seemed like the silent enforcer of the group. He definitely had a vicious, explosively violent quality going for him that I at least felt was being repressed as he was not the leader. Sort of like the beast on a leash. You may see this from the conviction in his face as he attacked the couple (stabbing Steve and knocking out Jenny, etc). I don't remember the details in the film, but do we see Brett explicitly throw the match on Adam? He at least doused the kid. I think it happened off-screen, so what's to say it wasn't the black kid who set him ablaze?

One thing I noticed throughout most of the film is that Brett has been a puppeteer, a manipulator like the gang leader he is. He's been instructing the others to do a lot of the vile acts (taking turns cutting up Steve, telling Paige to film everything and then convincing everybody to go through with it because they're all on film even though he conveniently deletes this evidence later on, guiding Adam's hand to throw the match). Granted, he's done his fair share of travesties, but it always seems like he's animating the evil in every member of the gang.
