If he was a bigger dude (tall and muscular), would that have made a difference? The kids didn't seem to be intimidated by him at all. Steve was a grown man but I think even the leader could have taken him alone which is why he wasn't scared of Fassbender's character.

Not just intimidated... they'd be in awe. These types of kids love celebs like Dwayne Johnson.
I think that's the point... Steve is pretty 'city' and too confident of himself, underestimating these kids just because they're kids.
If these kids tried this stuff on The Rock he would have beaten the living snot out of all of them. I bet he would have saved the dog and took the dog home with him. For good measure he would have taken a dump on the lawn of their front house as well.

I've been watching a lot of martial arts movies lately and I was just wondering, while watching the film, if it had been Bruce Lee or someone like him in the place of Steve how things would have gone down. I think that would have made for a very short movie though.

no, it wouldnt make a difference how much stronger , bigger or intimidating one looks. these kids already have the upper hand because they are low life scum who have nothing to lose and their victims have everything to lose.
Steve and Jenny had everything to lose, yet they did their best to put up a fight (at least Jenny did). So, yeah, it would make a difference. Especially when Dwayne Johnson wouldn't be playing the same character as Steve; his size alone shows that he knows how to fight and won't take **** from a bunch of delinquents. So, no, they wouldn't have the upper hand at all. The film chose a city person like Steve because he fits this situation as a victim really well.
