Nigerian Smuggler on a Few Episodes

It seems like every episode a Nigerian is organizing the smuggling they blatantly screw it up or lie to the mule.

For example, dude loads up the women's purse with kilos of heroin (worth thousands of dollars, this is a huge loss for himself I'm sure) and claims it's not see-able on the monitor. When she puts it up to be scanned though, it's easily shown on the monitor.

Does anyone know what his motivation could have been for this, or is he just thinking stupid and that she will possibly get lucky?

I think he simply had no clue what he was doing. That was a lot of money on the line to be careless.

He is paying Peruvian Customs agents bribes to allow a number of shipments through in addition to allowing the agents to make a bust now and then.

I was going to say the same thing- she was probably being set up to get caught from the beginning. A sacrificial lamb once in a while to keep the corrupt customs looking good.
