Show going down hill

Is anybody else feeling the show is going way down hill. This season has been very dissapointing, i mean the show is called "Locked Up Abroad" and so far quite a few episodes this season have lacked the "Locked Up" and "Abroad" part. A lot of the episodes this year seem to be in the US and have the person telling their story how they got into trouble and maybe 10 minutes of them actually in the locked up.

After seeing the latest episode of the guy stealing cars, im think this should probably be the last season, it barely feels like the same show i used to love, it just has the same format. However I have to say the actress they got to play the car stealing guy's girlfriend was very cute lol

Don't think it has gone too downhill. I'm just finding some of the stories more unbelievable and fake.

The hasidic king of coke? Really? Most made up story I've ever heard, no way it happened word for word like he said.

The father and son in China, I don't know if that was fake. They are either really stupid or great actors.

What the hell was this latest episode? Some nobody car thief from Washington goes to state prison for a couple years? Wow, what an unusual and exciting story. Someone needs to remind the producers what the word "abroad" means.

I just came to this board to check and see if anyone else was noticing how they've forgotten what the theme of the show is, as I'm watching this retarded car theft episode. Apparently they were just hoping because Fast and Furious 6 just came out that they'd get some of the fans to watch Locked Up Abroad? This episode is terrible, and I think this is the third or fourth time I've seen an episode lately where I didn't see anyone locked up or I didn't see anyone abroad. I'll certainly take it off my DVR list if it continues to divert from the title

reply

Yea what the hell was that last episode about...like did they forget the concept of the show for the SECOND week in a row...guys lets not forget the Vegas Mobster (Frank lived in US, busted in US and told on his crew in exchange for immunity) episode. Like P _horan, I felt this car thief episode was to get some fans from the Fast and Furious franchise and what a boring episode that was ..The show is sinking, hopefully it can revive itself with the last two episodes

I just watched that terrible car stealing episode and i came here to post the exact same complaint. I used to love this show, but now it's falling apart. Goddamnit. At least Breakout is still good.

reply

I have the same complaint. The one with the 5 guys in Mexico who tunneled out seemed way fake, and I hated the one with the guy from the UK who dealt E. Also, it seems to always be men who are featured. Where did all the drug smuggling women go? I like a balance.

I really liked previous seasons, with people getting busted at the airport or post office and then shipped off to jail. Now all these dramatic, over the top stories seem to have all gotten the "reality TV" treatment instead of it being a documentary.

reply

I agree it has gone down hill.

I have just finished watching the Tom Crutchfield episode.

Talk about delusions of grandeur. This guy thought he was Al Capone.

It didn't help that the Fish and Wildlife cop that was chasing Crutchfield styled himself as some kind of Elliot Ness.

reply

Agreed.

The Tom Crutchfield episode must be the worst one I've seen.

Show seems have lost its spark.

I felt exactly the same. It went all over the top, and I don't feel like it's about the locking up abroad part anymore but instead the focus is on this millionaire lifestyle and bragging what they had done. I could relate to people with coke in the bag scared on the airport, and that made things more realistic. Whereas nowadays people have entire gangs and empires and unreal stories that I can barely relate to at all. It's interesting so once in a while, but the entire seventh season seems filled with this.

I hope that they won't forget their roots and realise how the series once started. I understand that it might be hard to find those stories but I feel like it's a crucial part of it.

If they're running out of people now released to tell their stories, maybe they should go to some of these prisons abroad - hell, in Mexico - and interview what's likely the reality: people serving out their full, lengthy sentences. Would be more impactful, too, and it's been done a couple of times.

reply

They actually have, I can't remember the episode number but it was focused on a boyfriend / girlfriend who were both caught. At the end of the episode, they did a slow zoom out and you realize they are still in their cells, most powerful moment I've seen in any of the episodes when you realize their story isn't over. Though their prison looks like a cakewalk compared to most.

While I agree some of the episodes are ludicrous and definitely over exaggerated by the victims, most of them I feel are very accurate.
