not only for promoting justice for non-Whites but to more effectively fight the Cold War
Pssst...you didn't just miss the target, you missed the barn.
How about...SCREW the potential image that racism projects to the Russians (or anybody else)...and also, SCREW debating the potential harmful side-effects of MLK's supposed "character defects" on a then almost 350-year-old issue (unchecked by even civil war)...and instead, focus on something much more along the lines of: Because, in a nation that endlessly holds itself up as "the world's greatest ever example of a successful melting-pot", it's simply supposed to be,
morally, "just the right thing to do", period.
ALSO...the more Americans who have a legitimate opportunity to reach their full human potential, the greater the size of the potential pool and variety of minds available to solve America's most challenging problems. And in addition, finally, show America to actually be living out those incredibly profound promises in it's original Bill Of Rights. Instead of seemingly always falling short in the eyes of it's citizens of color (and as a result, THEN the eyes of the world).
Institutional racism is wrong, period!!! No further justification OR explanation is needed beyond that! Because, at it's absolute, most foundational level, it gradually eats away at the very fabric of America's capacity to continue competing on the world stage, period! Because it gradually drains away more and more of America's fundamental ability to just plain, "work together" to solve problems. (Something to do with, "A house divided...", I think.) All the rest is strictly just "smoke and mirrors".
So, we either invest heavily in ALL Americans finally being allowed to live as FULL Americans, or we die a slow, agonizing and impotent death on the world stage, in the name of continuing to covertly perpetuate the illusion of the inherent superiority of "whiteness"!!!
(Which is precisely why I asked you about your great-uncle and Cointelpro!!!)
No man lies so boldly as the man who is indignant.
