David Oyelowo performance was overrated(IMO)

I really dong get the outcry from the lack of nomination. He was definitely good, even very good but not as good as the other actors that were nominated and some that weren't.

reply

I don't think he deserved the nomination based on his accent alone--his accent sounded more Mississippi than Alabama and he didn't sound like King to me. The cadence alone was too slow.

You're wrong. It was exceptional. You are used to flashy performances. Like the one that won the Oscar.

i think the movie and performances were overrated. -I think it should've been done so much better.

If you ever go to Ebenezer Baptist in Atlanta...the sanctuary (interior) has nonstop MLK sermons playing over the P.A. --- so you can somewhat experience what it must've been like during the1960s when this incredibly gifted speaker was pastor. MLK was a soul-stirrer when he spoke to the masses. His cadence, fire and "singing" of his oratory is unmistakeable.

David O., unfortunately, missed the mark... He's a very good actor, but being cast as the great man doesn't automatically endow Oyelowo as doing a great portrayal. 😥

reply

@EveryDayFriend,

You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!! The director missed the mark! David missed the mark, he missed the true soul of MLK. I feel like if a movie is crap at the very end of the day GREAT ACTORS can turn a *beep* movie is into a good one. The actors here are miscast and the movie at most is average. They should've given it to Spielberg. I think MLK movie deserved excellent writers and exceptional directors.

There should have been an outrage over Chadwick Boseman not being nominated for playing James Brown than Oyelowo!

David Oyelowo performance was overrated

Agreed. He was just a foreign actor doing an imitation of Dr. King. But his performance had no heart, no soul. An African American should have been picked to play King. If Oyelowo lives to be a thousand, he will never understand the life and experiences that shaped MLK.
