Subject Matter Deserved a Better Film

Just watched this and was disappointed with how mediocre it was. The whole thing was hugely pedestrian. As soon as the real footage of Selmna came on, I instantly thought... "I wish I was watching a documentary about Selma rather than this film."

The direction was uninspired and while the performances were good, they certainly weren't of staggering quality. Pretty forgettable stuff. Not nearly compelling enough.

The subject matter deserved better.

Absolutely right. The movie was terrible, the plot was boring, and the actors, let's not even go there. Waste. Spielberg. I want Spielberg.

Heath Ledger Come Back,
This isn't funny, at all.

The cast was wasted as well. Any movie with Tim Roth, Tom Wilkinson and Giovanni Ribisi is one I would be interested in watching but this one didn't really keep me interested.

I agree. It deserved better.

But like everything today, talent is recognized by popularity not by talent, ironically.

Totally agree with other posters' comments. This was one of the most significant periods in the history of the Human Rights movement and the film simply didn't do the subject justice. This should have been a great movie but at best it was mediocre. I thought David Oyelowo gave an outstanding performance as MLK but nobody else in the cast were more than average. There must be better films out there concerned with this important subject, if not it's time somebody made one. This was very disappointing.

This means something, this is important.
