This is a great movie. Its about a funeral. Its about a small town saying goodbye to one of their sons. So dont make it more than that with all this political BS comments on this message board. I have to say that the comments on this board are the worst, the most crude, the most braindead of any message board on IMDB.
No, it's NOT about a funeral!!! It's NOT about a small-town saying goodbye to one of its sons. As an ex-military man (I suspect you're a 4-F'er, a pacifist), I order you to re-watch it! It's about RESPECT, it's about PRIDE, it's about HONOR, it's about DISCIPLINE, it's about SACRIFICE. Freedom ain't free, son, you gotta' earn it, EVERYDAY! You watched the pretty pictures go by, but you didn't understand a single thing this movie was trying (and SUCCEEDING!) to say. Yours were the MOST brain-dead comments I've EVER read on these boards! You disrespect EVERY man and woman that returns to this country, in a box, with an American flag covering the box! What? You have ice-water in your veins?
"You want the truth? You can't HANDLE the truth!" Jack Nicholson, "A Few Good Men."
I think the original poster meant the people trying to turn it into a political debate about being in Iraq, saying all of our current troubles are Bush's fault, and calling anyone who thought the movie rated more than a 5 are right-wing conservative pigs.
All you said about respect, pride, honor, etc. are true. Sacrifice. All of it. But, I think your response is misguided towards the original poster's intent.
You know, I AM prone to jumping to conclusions. Still, I have to tell you that YOUR comments actually drove me to go back and read the comments that the OP considered to be "BS." I think I found my answer in the thread entitled, "The TSA Agent." A poster named "moomar" said this, "It's the world we live in now and this younger generation. People don't care and have no respect." THAT'S the way I read the OP of THIS thread. THAT'S where I think the OP is coming from. So MY comment STILL STANDS. Thank YOU for posting, though, I don't mind being put in MY place from time to time!

Using the CAPS LOCK for choice words does not make your statements any more effective. Respect, sacrifice, discipline, etc. are all just empty rhetoric unless the cause is justified.
I'm not on here pushing a "right Wing Agenda" I am on here telling those who are bringing an agenda to shut the hell up and keep it off this board. It just so happens that those who are not respecting that are those from the left.
I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!
I've never been in combat, so I purposed to read about it from people who have been (WITH THE OLD BREED and ONE SQUARE MILE OF HELL). To me, it seems that combat is such an unspeakably difficult circumstance that politicans should be loathe to insert young people into it unless there are no other options. If chosen, however, those who engage in it should be given every opportunity to succeed, and those who survive it should be honored for having endured suffering that often robs the body and the mind of wholeness. I don't find these posts to be terrible, at all.

Your attitude is exactly the same as the right-wing have been pushing ever since we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, ie don't question the war, just support the troops. I support the men and women in the field wholeheartedly, but I'll be damned if I join in the cover-up as to why they're there in the first place.
It's not just this movie, that the boards are this way. People on the internet keep getting worse and worse. Pick virtually any television show, or movie on IMDB and you'll see examples of anonymous cowards treating one another like human garbage. It's not just this website either. When people aren't held accountable for what they have to say, you will see how many monsters are out there.
That's not to say there aren't nice people on this site or others, it's just incredibly hard to find them anymore. Plus all of this anonymous hatred feeds and causes more of such.
Then again what should we expect from a bunch of animals? Just because we have better technology, we've somehow evolved into some better kind of creature?
Speaking for myself, it's increasingly difficult to participate in such areas, without such behavior making me want to lash out at those lashing out.
Back to the movie though, it's a very emotional one, from a really different perspective.
