What was put in coffin?
The young Marine had what looked like a note and also a bundle of something that he placed in Chance's coffin. Just wondered if anyone could tell me what the bundle was.

I just saw the movie and what I recall is that a young marine was given something by Chance's family to put inside the coffin. The nature of the bundle's content was not revealed. The family had made it clear they did not wish to view the body but wanted the bundle placed inside the coffin. That's when the funeral director opened the coffin and allowed the marine to put the little bag under the dead marine's hands and later the Kevin Bacon character paid his respects before the open coffin.
