shareSame here. I happened upon this film one morning, and was instantly captivated. What a stirring tribute to the care and honor shown to the remains of our fallen warriors, and the incredible job the escorts do to see them safely home.

I accidently came across this film in the older section at BB about 3 years ago. I viewed it and immediately went to Amazon on the computer to order it. I love this film. I think its Bacon's best work. Every time I watch those vehicles line up on the highway, I lose it. It's on one of the HBO channels tonite. There's no better film to watch for Memorial day than this one.
What gets me is when he gives honors (or whatever it's called) each time the casket is moved, and more and more people gather around each time.
share....having seen "Taking Chance" at least 20 times ......I'm confident when I say, that, as an American ....it should be required viewing.
shareI wish I had a still shot of that convoy escort going down the highway. I'd frame it and put it on a wall.
Totally agree - that procession on the highway, as it grows, is an image that defines the whole film. Just watched it again ,with our own small-town New Mexico Memorial Day ceremonies tomorrow . Thanks.
shareI live in Ohio and have more than once seen bodies traveling to small towns from the Columbus airport. All along the way, maybe for 50, 60 miles and more, the nearest town lines up their fire and police departments on the overpasses of the highway. When the hearse finally pulls off onto a road going to the town, the road is lined at any town along the way with citizens. I inadvertantly was following the same path one day to visit my folks - major highway to a smaller two lane - we were almost going to the same place. I was part of the growing convoy. By the time the hearse arrived at the hometown, I was bawling - I had to pull over.

Just finishing now for the first time, so moving. I was sobbing throughout the film.

Truly moving. I wept throughout the movie. I may not believe in war but I do believe in human nature.
shareAgreed, OP. Somehow I missed it at the time and caught it on cable yesterday. I'm not an emotional person but I cried the.entire.movie - from the opening scenes all the way to the end. It's beautifully done. I have renewed respect for Kevin Bacon.
