Dakota's performance

When I saw the movie I thought she was terrible, played Cheri like a scared little girl, and that was definitely NOT my memory of Cheri. BUT! I just finished the book, and found that Cheri WAS a scared little girl. I remember Cheri as being this tough, fearless, in-your-face chick; that was how she portrayed herself on stage. After reading about how much pain she was in....well, it destroyed that image for me for all time. It's funny, if you watch their videos, how deceptive Cheri is. Disappointing, but it is what it is, I guess.

But anyway, I have a new respect for Dakota Fanning, she did a very accurate portrayl of Cheri.

The movie amps up all the lesbian stuff with Joan, which is pretty much glossed over in the book. Well, girls kissing is sexy, I suppose.

Dakota can't sing worth crap!!!!

reply

Well...neither can Cherie. Maybe she really CAN sing, and her crappy singing was part of her character as Cherie. Heh.

Fanning and Stewart did nearly perfect covers in this film. Fanning has a great voice. So did Cherie. Only guys who hate girl rockers slag her and the band. Some things never change, do they?

reply

singing wasnt that great but as usual...her acting sure as hell was!!!

I hate that Dakota took on this movie. There are plenty of girls who are over 18, who could pass for 15. No need actually taking on a child.

Are you a parent, Metal? (Because I am a parent, and I wouldn't want to watch my teenage daughter in sex scenes.) I really do get what you're saying, but at the same time, Dakota is smart enough to understand that this is a role, and she's no longer 12, and she has to transition to adult roles. I really don't understand "she's a child." (By one's late teens, most have at least experimented with sex.) So was Jodie Foster was 13 when she made Taxi Driver. She was examined by a psychologist and he/she said she was mature enough, at age 13, to play a teenage prostitute and not be harmed by it. The role of Cherie Curie was pretty tame compared to Iris.

There was no nudity, tho there was drug abuse (like there was everywhere at that period in time).

What exactly is your objection, in this particular case? I understand you mean her age, but there are a lot of insightful, mature teens, and I think Dakota is one of them.

But seriously, I'm not trying to provoke a fight. I am interested, genuinely interested, why you "hate" that she took on this movie. Why?

I dont get it, she's an actress. She act. She play with what was in the script. And she cant possibly keep on doing the same role she was doing when she was 10. She is grown up. She is taking more mature role because she is more mature.

Right.

And I think both she and Cherrie are both good singers.

All I know is that Dakota Fanning doesn't hold a candle to Cherie Currie in terms of being foxy. They should have found someone a little hotter. And older. You'll notice in 1975-1978 photos of Cherie, she looked considerably older/mature compared to Dakota... who still looks like a prepubescent child.

Some of you people are so stupid!!Stop patronizing a person just because they're younger than you!

Dakota has been an amazing actress since she was a little kid. I think she nailed the role of Cheri. Kudos Yinky I have always had respect for her though, she was amazing in a movie where she was kidnapped and had to be around 6 and in another movie Hide and Seek she was so amazing.

I thought all of the actors in the Runaways (the movie, not the real band) were too girlie-girl type to play tough women realistically. Admittedly, this is a tough casting call: You need slim, attractive women, who can perform on stage convincingly and are tough as nails. I can't think of too many women who would meet that bill, and non who are actors.

You didn't think Kristen Stewart totally nailed Jett? I thought she was perfect.
