Good movie, but what really bothers me...

Is that Dakota Fanning made no attempt to sound like Cherie Currie when she was singing.
Cherie has a very raw, powerful voice, but Dakota sounds very bubblegum-pop teen. Cherie Currie still praised Dakota's work, but while Kristen Stewart played Joan Jett well, even with the voice, Dakota seems to have either not noticed, or skipped this effort.

honestly, I just could not get past the horrible, horrible writing.. I think they really missed the boat with this one...The Runaways is an incredible story and should of been and incredible role..

I agree with Dakaota not sounding like Cherie.. did she even really sing in this? Also.. she looked NOTHING like the actress playing Marie Curie.. Cherie and Marie are IDENTICAL Twins.. why not have Dakota play both parts? would of made much more sense.

I absolutely hated the actor and the character of Kim... I don't know if he was a bad actor..or was just such a poorly written script.

I read Cherie Curie's Autobiography years ago.. as well as Joan Jett's.. there is a great story there.. but.. they script is just so bad..

Maybe it's because Lita Ford refused to let her story be told.. that is why she is barely mentioned.. and maybe Dakota Fanning demanded her part be the biggest..so they had to write stuff in for her..

But... I don't know.. I was so disapointed.. maybe because I do know the real story... but even though I'm a fan of Dakota... I don't think she was cut out for this role...

I agree with pretty much everything you just said. I've read Cherie Currie's autobiography several times, and I agree, it's an awesome if somewhat frightening story, and the movie barely touched on any of it. Especially the way Cherie's departure was changed, and made out that it caused the band to split.
Dakota's sister Elle perhaps could have played Marie. Elle and Dakota look very alike, would have already had sisterly chemistry. But having Dakota do both would have worked too.
I guess it's never going to be 100% truth, and there was a lot in Cherie's book that couldn't go into a movie for the teen market. But I agree, a lot more could have been done with such an awesome story.

exactly.. I mean.. I'm a fan of Dakota Fanning.. I'm a fan of Kristen Stewart.. I'm a fan of Joan Jett and I'm a fan of Cherie Curie's... I actually felt bad writing this..

shold of been win/win... right? should of been.. they had great talent and a great true story.. but some how.. I was just dissapointed... I think it was definitely a combination the writing.. and the fact that they couldn't tell Lita's story..and didn't really tell Joan's.. or even Cherie's...

(they left out Cherie getting raped..(her loss of innocence).and the part where Kim 'taught' them how to have sex by having sex in front of them...'..two biggest parts of the book.. they also should of had Marie in it more..

They seemed to focus on the drugs and sex..(but not really..jus the partying..not the consenquences of it)..and the lesbianism... just for the 'shock' of kristen kissing dakota..

I just expected more.. I hope someone else decides to film another movie about the runaways..and does it better...

I don't see why Joan wouldn't do Edgeplay but endorsed this, when Edgeplay was a much more accurate version of events. I think it sucks how they left out all the other girls- Sandy and Lita are hardly mentioned, and this Jackie substitute Robin doesn't even have a single line!

Exactly... and I had never heard of 'Edgeplay'.. Thanks! I will check it out for sure now.

Both Fanning and Stewart did the best they could have with a bad and ill-informed script and on top of that they didn't make them lip sync. I just saw the movie and was very disappointed. No wonder Jackie Fox didn't give them permission to use her name (Robin Robins lol). The film only focused on what I would call Jett's selective and self-serving memories.

Edgeplay is a great feature-length documentary made by Vicki Blue (bassist who took over from Jackie) and it features interviews with Cherie and her mum, Sandy and her parents, Lita, Jackie, Vicki and Kim Fowley, but Joan refused to be part of it because she said it "wasn't what the Runaways was about," but comparing it to this movie, I'd say it was much more accurate. Of course, I can't know, but even the ones who went on with their own private lives like Jackie appeared, so I don't see why Joan would. It's a real shame. But it's a great watch, and some lovely (but sad) footage of the late Sandy West.

Yes Edgeplay was much better than the film, I bought it on DVD. It's sad they never got back together for a reunion tour before West passed on - I think West would have loved to do it. I believe the documentary much more than the film, as I stated the film, for me anyway, was mostly what Jett wanted the public to see (it didn't matter if it was "real" or not), IMO she controlled everything on the film (I'm sure Cherie had little, if any input on it). I don't know what's up with Jett but she seems like a control freak. Plus she is not a nice person, I met her at MSG once and asked for her autograph and she acted as if she was some big hot shot not the has-been she is. I threw her autograph out afterwards - I should have sold it to some crazy Jett fan.

I think Dakota missed everything about Cherie the only thing was how she dressed Cherie has a sexiness about her and an edginess about her that Dakota didn't capture she made no attempt to talk like her or make facial expressions like her or anything. I think she was horrible. I believed Kristen Stewart to be Joan Jett and everyone else did really good. I think if they would have gotten someone that really made an effort and acted like Cherie this movie would have been so much better. I found Dakota to be boring.

I agree with everyone of you.

But I don't think this was a good movie. It started well, but then it went down, down, I like Dakota Fanning, she's talented, but here, she even makes me dislike Cherie! That's no good.

Bad scipts, bad direction, bad cinematography, bad edition... it reminds me "Bad Reputation" haha, I love that song, but this movie just dissapointed me.

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.
