Cherie's real life rapes ignored in this movie
The director chose to edit out the rape Cherie Currie suffers at the hands of her sisters ex-boyfriend at age 14. The directors reasons were she did not want Cherie's character to loose her innocence so early in the film. I think this is a cop out, and a slap in the face of Cherie Currie. The rape was a major reason she cut her hair, idolized Bowie and went to clubs. If Currie could have endured these attacks in real life, why couldn't the director face them in this movie? Denial about rape, and covering it over is a sad fact for many victims. Currie bravely admitted her rapes, but this film buries them. I would expect more from a woman director. She should have had the balls to film the truth.
