Why didn't they have these girls lip sync the real songs?

K. Stew actually impressed me w/ her dead-on impersonation of J. Jett. But was anyone else thinking maybe they went too far by letting these actors actually sing these great songs made so famous by J. Jett and Cherie?

Otherwise, everything was right on for me. The soundtrack was great too.

Singing probably helped them portray the characters better, and they sounded good.

Lip synching would have meant that the movie lost some of its authenticity. They're meant to be portraying the runaways, not a runaways tribute act.

If the movie took creative liberties with the fictionalized versions of the band members, and I am not insinuating they had, then why not lipsynch it? Most "biopics" try to sanitize and ditch authenticity over fear of scaring audiences that are sold on the idea they are seeing a person's history played out as opposed to reading it.

"Keeping it real" - not just a mindless social media meme.

It wouldnt have looked authentic of they lipsync. Plus could you imagine Cherie's real voice coming from Dakota Fanning? It wouldnt look right.

It's called a movie. If u want real life watch a documentary

This way there are 2 albums to sell, the original and the soundtrack.

Because Kristen Stewart CAN sing!!! :) Beautifully!!!

No Day But Today. Today 4 U. One Song Glory.
How we gonna pay last year's RENT?!

I also thought it was fine for them to sing the songs. Let's not forget - rock'n'roll isn't exactly opera so with an okay voice and some acting talent (i.e., voice talent), you can pull this off credibly. And that is exactly what they did.

I liked the music and singing in this film. I was wishing there was more singing. But they also had a tight schedule, and probably would have had a hard time doing too many songs. But I loved Kristen and Dakota sining in this; felt they did a great job!

I think Kristen did pretty good at the singing. I think Dakota did okay, but she really wasn't that awesome of a singer as Cherie Currie. I cringe every time she sang Cherry Bomb. But she did California Paradise well. But yeah, the girls performing as The Runaways let them get experience as to what it was like, and ultimately helped their performance.

This. BTW- I only just saw this film yesterday (yeah, a bit behind the times) and I thought it was great. Ordered the soundtrack right after I finished. Looking foward to it.

I agree. Cherie owned that microphone more. It seemed like Dakota was trying to sound 'pretty'.
