I found the original 1980 to be too cold for me. Now it seems a very Brit approach to fiction. Also a very 1980's approach, though the 80's appears to have had other approaches too.
This has the same mix of kids trying to get through their age 14 to 18 school years, just the disaster is easier to handle. The positives are clearer and part of the mainstream storyline fun. Closer to the fun level of the 1980's television series, which good proper English do not notice as worthwhile.
