Why would a photo of Erin holding her son in front of a gravestone be reason enough for Mare's boss to get in touch with her right way???
What exactly would that indicate in relation to the case???
From the back of the photo, everything looks quite blurry, so I could be wrong about the gravestone. Maybe it is just a photo of Erin and DJ with some notes on it. And the note is very important to the case.
Anyway, the narrative of Billy and Erin having an incestuous relationship doesn't hold up because DJ has light blond hair, while Erin and all adult men in the Ross family have dark hair. So the following question is: why would the Ross brothers agree to run with such a lie? Perhaps to cover up an even more embarrassing family secret and another crime.
Here is my speculation:
In the Ross family reunion, Ryan (blond hair) has his first adult experience with cousin Erin, who probably just wants to help him to get some confidence with girls. But then Erin gets pregnant and gives birth to DJ.
She claims Dylan is the father. They go to court and Dylan loss.
She must have tried to pull the same trick with Mare's son Kevin before, but KevinοΌwho inherits his grandpa's detective mind, finds out the truth about DJ.
Later he needs money to buy drugs, so blackmails Eric, threatening to expose the secret, but he ends up getting killed and Billy makes it look like Kevin hanging himself.
Mare's daughter Siobhan, who also inherits some of his grandpa's detective mind, eventually figures all out and confronts Billy and Erin at the Brandywine park with Grandpa's gun. Erin tries to take the gun away from her and accidentally get shot in the face.
Then, Billy dumps the dead body to save Siobhan and himself.
The young girl with Down's Syndrome also has RED HAIR. And if she's not adopted, and Lori gave birth to her, Lori also has lots of FRECKELS on her face (which could also explain why her daughter has red hair). And JOHN also looks like his hair is AUBURN (another type of REDDISH hair that can look like a dark color). And even with a DOMINANT genetic trait (like DARK hair), 2 parents could still also produce a child with a RECESSIVE TRAIT (RED or light colored hair). And MARE and her daughter also have light colored hair as well (which means Kevin would also have RECESSIVE GENETIC TRAITS in him). RECESSIVE TRAITS are tricky and can show up when you least expect it.
Since we keep seeing KEVIN as a child in that video at a LAKE where he's enjoying himself, my guess is ERIN or someone invited him to be there for that family reunion (which also took place back when RYAN was probably still only about age 9 or 10 at the time). So I don't think Erin would have been sexually attracted to him or to a child that young.
Most likely KEVIN was there up at the LAKE for that FAMILY REUNION, and maybe he and BILLY and/or JOHN got into a fight over ERIN (which LORI might also be hiding from MARE-- who might also want CUSTODY of DJ if she knew she's his grandmother). And the way that she treats CARRIE might also explain why they'd be afraid of telling Mare that Kevin's the father. And since LORI was also forthcoming about Erin living with Billy, I'm also thinking LORI doesn't know that Mare could be the granny of DJ.

Every member of the Ross family seems to have some kind of secret or troubles they are carrying around like a sack of hoagies and I assume she is no different, and she was at the cabin for the reunion, and she might know something, and she, like every character on this show, gets really shifty when pressed with what appear to be simple questions
NOTE π the way even the little RED HAIRED girl who was BULLIED at school LIES to MARE when she asked her if she was being PICKED on at school. And we can also assume her being MISTREATED had gone on for a long time due to the way her brother sits there FUMING before he attacks the BULLY. Because he also looked like he'd finally had enough of NO ONE else doing anything to stop it.
So MARE being a COP is probably also why they HIDE things from her (in fear that telling her would just make things worse for them -- due to the way people in this town also tend to take matters into their own hands -- like Erin's father trying to KILL DYLAN -- or the way JESS lies to MARE about Erin's JOURNALS because she's AFRAID of DYLAN -- or the way Brianna's father STALKS MARE and threw the MILK through her window).
And MARE is also the SAME WAY as they are *(due to the way she also keeps REFUSING to OBEY the ORDERS her BOSS gives her to WAIT for BACKUP or to stay out of the ERIN case once she was SUSPENDED).
So maybe the photo is ERIN posing in it with MARE's son KEVIN??? Or KEVIN posing in it like it's a "FAMILY PHOTO" and he's also holding ERIN's son??? And maybe on the back of it ERIN has written something like:
"DJ, DADDY, and me???"

it also looks like someone wearing a V NECK sweater is laying next to an INFANT??? So maybe that photo would be KEVIN with DJ also say:

I re-watched the cafeteria bullying scene in episode 5, Lori and Moira's hair look pretty blond to me. But Ryan's hair is darker than I thought. Kevin also has dark hair like his father, except in the video when he was a child wearing the red hat. And also skip-generation is real a thing. So maybe it's unwise to make speculation based on hair color:

Yes you're right about how the DNA test on Frank should have been a CLOSE MATCH if KEVIN is DJ's dad. But what if Kevin isn't Franks son???
Whatever the case may be, KEVIN also has RED HAIR in that GHOST PHOTO of him. And I've also just CHECKED OUT the IMAGE of DJ sitting on Dylan's lap which also shows how DJ also has REDDISH HAIR just like KEVIN. If you have ON DEMAND, You can find that scene and PAUSE IT at around the 30 to 40 min TIME FRAME.
And since you say JOHN has DARK HAIR (even though his eyes are also BLUE and the baby also has dark looking eyes), the baby looks more like KEVIN than JOHN.
But since LOOKS can also be deceiving who knows!!!

But maybe he could also be trying to WARN her that her SON is the FATHER of Erin's son???
That's what I'm thinking: JOHN KILLED KEVIN over his being JEALOUS of him seeing ERIN. So he'll have killed KEVIN (making it look like a SUICIDE), ERIN (making it look like KATIE's kidnapper did it), and his brother BILLY (then making it look like he killed ERIN after they figured out the kidnapper didn't kill Erin).
5 more days to go until it's SHOWTIME again on HBO!!! I'm really going to miss MARE and her MOM and RICHARD and the rest of them. Hope they'll also do another SEASON of this show again like they did for "BIG LITTLE LIES!!!"
