Why does Dom wreck and blows up his cars?

I mean, he is a car LOVER!

he gets blocked in and has no choice but to let his car crash. he jumps over into someone elses car

He also blows up his own car to cause a distraction? Pretty sure there are a number other ways to cause a distraction and then get away in the car he didn't blow up.
