Why Didn't Vin Do 2Fast 2Furious?

i don't recall why he didn't come back for the second film. did he have a reason?

reply

They were showing all 4 of the films on sky1 here in the uk recently, and vin was talking about each film before the start and said he didnt like the script for 2 and 3 but came back for the 3rd film for a short cameo so he could produce and star in 456

Vin would have been better than Tyrese Gibson. But how could Vin return anyway. He was a fugitive in number 1.

reply

Vin didn't do it because he wanted 20 million which was way more than he got for the first movie. Word has it there were two scripts for 2F2F just in case he changed his mind. He wouldn't budge so universal left him out of the movie.

Didn't he already sign on to do xXx at the time? I know that xXx was filmed in probably 2001 and 2 Fast 2 Furious was filmed in 2002.

He was given sequel options for this, xXx, and Pitch Black. He chose to do the sequel to Pitch Black.

It's not hard to see how they basically just ported Vin's character on to Tyrese's in "2 Fast 2, Furious." Brian teams up with another car criminal from his past to take down a crime lord in exchange for a full pardon.

That could just as easily have been Dom that Brian teams up with. They even have a bit where Tyrese has a gun and says that he's not going back to jail, just like Dom said that he'd die before going back to jail in the first one.

They probably only had to re-write a few scenes and change some lines of dialogue to have "2 different scripts" that follow the same plot and have the same action sequences since the car scenes are the real stars of these movies anyway.

reply

Another reason he didn't come back is because Rob Cohen wasn't directing 2F2F.

Honestly though, if things didn't happen the way they did, we would have never had gotten Fast Five and Six, which are way more entertaining than the previous ones.

reply

I don't agree with that. I love Fast 5 and 6 but the first three films will always be my favorites. They're a lot more fun.

Good point on that, they could easily had replaced Tyrese with Vin, but that being said, I really liked the Roman Pierce character and I'm kinda glad that Vin returned for 3 & 4.
