How did Brian become a cop again

I find it interesting as to how Brian joined the Feds again, surely someone who could not be trusted he helped Dom get away in the first film, so how did get to become an Agent again, I mean as much as I love these movies, i just cant understand why the FBI would trust him again after betraying his employers in the first movie.

I am probably thinking too much into it, but often wondered about it.

I don't remember the second film very well.. but they recruited him and Tyrese to help them out in Miami, didn't they.. guess that squared everything up..?

Anyway... I always thought it would be kind of stupid to blame him for letting Dom go in the first film anyway... I mean, no one saw what happened... the dude's twice his size and woulda killed him if he tried to arrest him on the spot anyway.. a cat like Dom ain't goin down by one cop--armed or unarmed..

My impression is that in the first one he's a cop or detective. And come the second one he's an FBI agent. Because in the 4th when he's talking to Mia about lying he says "I guess that's why the FBI recruited me"

That's just my guess. Could be completely wrong and he was FBI all the time but in the first one they throw around the word cop a lot.

No, in the second movie he was hiding out in Miami trying to avoid detection by the authorities until they found him and got him to help out on a case. Brian was getting by on money he was winning from street racing prior to that.

I didn't mean FBI the whole time including when he ran away, I meant I didn't know what sort of law enforcement he originally was. I think in the first he was a undercover cop/detective not a fed because they use the word cop a lot in the first movie.

In the first film it's assumed that Brian was part of the LAPD.

In the first movie, Brian was an LAPD officer, who was placed in a joint LAPD-FBI task, where the FBI told him that they would have the LAPD make him a detective should he go undercover and find out who from the street racing world are guilty of hijacking trucks and stealing DVD players worth $6 million in total.

In the second, he was a wanted man who was found by U.S Customs, who were running an operation to take down a known drug dealer, Carter Verone, with consultation from Special Agent Bilkes, the same FBI agent who appeared in #1. Brian successfully apprehended Verone, which most likely put him in the FBI's good graces again, especially when you add the fact that there's no actual proof of "how he let Dom go" - all the Feds know is Dom's Charger was found wrecked and Brian was wandering around car-less and for all they know, Dom threatened him, knocked him out, stole his car, etc. Even though Brian never denied when the FBI bring up the fact that he let his mark get away.

Anyways .. by Fast 4, he is an FBI agent, until the very end, when he helps orchestrate Dom's release and becomes wanted.

The head of the FBI, or whoever he was, mentioned Brian was reinstated. I think other than that this one was trying to ignore 2. I don't think the main plot was intended to be set before the third film either. FAST FIVE is great, but made the series unnecessary prequels to TOKYO DRIFT.

In the prelude it shows the cops raiding Brian's house and starting a manhunt for him. But like it was said before, no one saw O'Connor let Dom escape, so he could have easily lied about what happened.

Even though Bilkins had his recorded cleaned at the end of 2F2F, it seems odd he could ever become an FBI agent. Not sure how much time passed between the events of 2F2F and Fast and Furious, I'm guessing he opened that shop in Miami with Roman, but missed being in law enforcement and had Bilkins give him an recommendation or FBI recruited him because they needed good undercover agents. It almost would have been better if Bilkins was in charge in Fast 4 to help explain how O'Connor was in the FBI all the sudden.

It would have been cool to see Bilkins appear again in this film. I know Thom Barry had his priorities with Cold Case at the time, but I think he should have appeared in at least one scene, like in a meeting with Stasiak and Penning.

All I need is one mic...
