Letty got taken out so early. i remember being like well damn she's awesome and that's all we get of her?!?! and then we got that post credit scene in fast 5 and a full return in fast 6. it was awesome but in 2009 i was pissed haha. was it always intended to bring her back?
Yeah that was one of the many reasons people were disappointed in the film, including myself. Her leaving so early, the plot basically being a remake of the 1st, the long melodramatic scenes of badly rehearsed and poorly written dialogue, the awful CGI, the dark tunnel scenes they kept trying to shove down our throats but never actually pulled off once, the overly long run-time, etc.
I don't think the plan was to bring her back the whole time, it was something they needed to do to keep the series afloat more than anything else...

Not to mention the many plotholes and nonsensical story. I've never seen plotholes so huge.
Examples:
Braga's identity and prints. They took the prints off the glass which had 2 sets of prints - they were already expecting to find the guy who turned out to be Braga AND the old guys they thought were braga's - yet at the end of the movie they get the results and see his face on braga's name... Besides the logic error, wouldn't they already have that Intel at the beginning? I mean, they're doing an OP against this guy, wouldn't they look him up? If that file was sitting in Interpol or whoever's database with braga's name on it, wouldn't they have access to that? They got it at the end of the movie? Wouldn't it make sense to be like "hey, there's this guy we need to take down, this is his name, do u got anything on him?" Then Interpol be like "searching now... Ya we got him in our database, we will FAX that right over to u right now. Cuz that's the way we do things in 2009.. *beep* email."
And the whole storyline about figuring out how to get into the race when later it's revealed letty was sent there by Brian and therefore they would already know how to get into the race..
Normally I wouldn't care about a few holes, but these are just PATHETICLY AMATEUR.
Plus the actor who played Braga was a weak joke. There's absolutely NOTHING intimidating about him. Especially since he's always been a comedy actor, and a crap one at that. Horrible choice. Thankfully they got their *beep* together for the next 2 movies and they were actually decent. This one is complete *beep* They totally screwed up the whole reunion between Brian. Dom, Mia and crew. Super weak acting all around.
it's revealed letty was sent there by Brian and therefore they would already know how to get into the race..
Brian wouldnt necessarily have known how Letty got into the gang. Before she died, he might not even have known that she had succeeded in getting into it.
All Brian knew (perhaps) was that Letty was asking that IF she somehow got evidence against Braga, then would that be enough to get a clean slate for her and Dom.
I watched these films in reverse order starting with The Fate Of The Furious. So Letty was alive at that time. I watched her story unwind from being just another member of the gang, to Dom trying to get her back onside, back to when it's revealed she may still be alive.
So when I saw this one and she was killed, it didn't have the same emotional value for me as I knew she was absolutely fine.
Thats interesting that you watched the films in reverse order. I started watching this series in the middle. Fast Five was the 1st movie I saw. I then jumped to F9 before watching the original. That was my top 3 order.
A lot of people seem to say that Fast Five was the first film which really turned this into what it became, in terms of a spectacle.
But I only watched Fate of the Furious in the first place by chance - FootOfDavros Jnr was a big fan of both The Rock and Jason Statham (courtesy of The Meg). So the first one I really saw was Hobbs & Shaw.
Previously I had literally no interest in watching any fasts or furiouses. But that film was a lot of fun and I think the moment when all the cars turbo boosted together to stop a helicopter taking off was the penny dropping moment for me, in terms of what these films are.
