Weirdly, Shia LaBeouf did a great job in this.

I've hated Shia LaBeouf in everything he's been in. But when I force myself to think of anything in this movie that didn't suck, his performance actually fit well.

Dustin Hoffman and Giancarlo Esposito also did very well in their roles.

John Voight reminds me a lot of Christopher Walken after he aged and couldn't really keep it together. He wasn't bad, just not good either.

Adam Driver, ugh.

Hah yeah I didn't recognize LeBeouf at first either due to a lot of make-up or if he's had cosmetic work done. He did fit his character like a glove though and I think he could have a strong career in the future typecasting himself in roles where he plays an unhinged lunatic kinda like Corey Feldman, Gary Busey, Klaus Kinski, Helmut Berger, etc. His leading man years are now behind him but he's transitioning well into a nutty character or villain actor.

I agree, he was the only one who felt natural. He fit the weirdness and ridiculous of the screenplay very well, but he's also perfectly cast as a rich, spoiled man-child. I liked joking that he was never acting in any of his scenes.
