For my fellow females....

I didn't think I would like this one bit. I mean a karate movie? And what is Mamet doing making a karate movie? But because I enjoy about 60% of Mamet's work in regards to film I gave it a shot. Well worth it!

Of course "us chicks" still love The Notebook, Legends of the fall and embarassed to say, Enchanted. I strongly reccomend Redbelt to any Female with half a brain.

Expand your (I'm incuded) MTV, ADD, no attention span mind.

Mamet is a big martial arts fan. It goes with his ultra macho pose.

Please don't talk about things you have no idea about. He used BJJ (that's the whole premise) but there was also a lot of Filipino martial arts (the non-bjj stuff). This can be seen when he is practicing with the rattan escrima sticks. It is a form of weapons fighting and it is what you see whenever there is a knife/stick involved. The foremost authority on it is Guro Dan Inosanto who plays the 'the old man/professor' in the movie. He was also the co-fight director along with Renato Magno who provided the Jiu Jitsu based choreography. No karate was involved because karate is primarily punching the air in some strip mall. Not all karate, there are 'knockdown' or 'full-contact' styles such as Kyokushin but those dojos are very rare. In short, you don't know ish and you should be responsible with your gift of stupidity by not spreading it around recklessly. Good day.
