Emily Mortimer's Pill 'Problem'

Does anyone know, is she supposed to be addicted to painkillers, or is she on serious antidepressants or what? I've only seen the movie once a bit ago, and can't remember if this is ever explained. All I remember is her desperately looking for the pharmacy before it closes in the very beginning, and her covertly popping a pill during her lunch with Mike, where she starts to say something about having a "problem".

It's never explicitly addressed, though you get some hints that the prescription is unconventional in that she has to have it filled at a pharmacy in a bad part of town, that, she says, the "prescription won't stand up in a traditional pharmacy," and that she's clearly stressed and anxious because of her rape. She's depending on drugs to manage her trauma and fear until she submits to Terry's teachings which have a therapeutic effect.

It's Xanax or Valium I think.

And I also believe this was a great movie.
