Have you ever saw other films by Mamet?
This kind of dialog is not unusual in his films, actually this is very cool technic of defamiliarization, and I like it.

Watch his Spartan, Heist and The Spanish Prisoner.

it is all styliZed...see other of his works and you will see. Look out for repetition of answers, "elegant", "baby"...and the delivery is dried as a dead twig and direct as a loaded gun in your face...somewhat theatrical and Robert Bressonesque..
