Poll: Favorite Realistic Fight Scenes in Movies/TV

I'm done with Wire-fu, movie martial arts!

Most films/tv shows do no justice to fight scenes. It's become formulaic and repetitive. How many times do you see the same old exchange of blocked hay-makers and knockout punches??

Thank you David Mamet. I am so appreciative of the bar fight and IFA security fight scenes in this movie. Very well done.

What are your favorite realistic fight scenes in movies or tv?

These are a few of mine (in no particular order):
-Jewelry store scene, Marked For Death (Steven Seagal)
-Final fight scene, Lethal Weapon (Mel Gibson vs. Gary Busey (prob on coke))
-Final Duel, Rob Roy (Liam Neeson vs. Tim Roth)
-Escape from Bathroom & Multiple snippets, Burn Notice (Jeffrey Donovan, USA network)
-Final Duel, Yojimbo (Toshiro Mifune in the best of Akira Kurosawa)
-Practice duel ends in death, The Seven Samurai (Kurosawa again)
-Bruce Lee in Game of Death 'nuff said.
-Studio apt ambush, disarm & execution scene, The Art of War (Wesley Snipes)
-Multiple attackers w/ weapons in an alley, Above the Law (Seagal)
-Midnight fight. Zatoichi The Tale of Zatoichi
-Friendly Duel in the pouring rain, Yoshimura vs. Saito When the Last Sword is Drawn
-Multiple snippets, Dexter (Michael C. Hall, Showtime)

definitely Chocolate (2008)

from the guy who directed ong bak and the protector, there is lots of hardcore action with no wires.

JACKIE CHAN

SPL (donnie vs jacky wu baton/knife fight)
Flash Point - end fight

reply

In terms of realism have to echo those already mentioned:
Ong Bak
Tom Yum Goong (The Protector)
Chocolate
Above The Law (Seagal)
any of the fights in the above films
Also
Out For Justice (Seagal the invincible in pool hall battle)
Bourne Ultimatum (Not a Matt Damon fan but it has a well staged hand to hand fight in this film)
Code of Silence (Chuck Norris fight in Bar/poolroom)
Billy Jack (Tom Laughlin and stunt double Bong Soo Han fight men in park)
Jeremiah Johnson (Redford goes hand to hand with Crow Indian)
Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Bogart and Tim Holt try to collect a debt in a Mexican bar)

reply

Yeah, Flash Point and SPL definitely's got the best fight scene EVER!

Uncommon Valor("That oriental martial bulls...!")
Apocalypto(esp.village war scene)
Borat (hehe)
First Blood("Damn this boys hard t'git hold of...")
Liar Liar ("I'm kicking my a--")

How about the hallway fight between John Cusack and Benny "The Jet" Urquidez in Grosse Pointe Blank?

reply

Oh good god. i read thru every one of these posts waiting to see if anyone had mentioned "grosse pointe blank" and there it is right on the last one. definitely my all time favorite "realistic" fight scene. they did a very good job conveying two trained killers with martial arts training, not just trading licks, but really trying to kill each other. amazing scene!

Wow. Im' impressed with your list. You know what you're talking about. Here are a few of mine of the top of my head: anything in (above the law), mostly anything with Bruce Lee, bar fight (code of silence), bar fight (redbelt), bokken fight in rain (the last samurai)

ROAD HOUSE and the beach fight from POINT BREAK. I must be on a Swayze kick. He just seemed to do it so well on screen. OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN has a good fight between Richard Gere and Louis Gossett Jr. in the end.
