First off, you’ve got to watch these kinds of comedies with a pinch of salt - fair enough.....but this was not good.
It was not funny....it was a bit off the mark, even for this kind of silly film.
I think Spencer was miscast, or the character was played too straight as she seemed too serious which I think deflated any humour from McCarthy’s character.
Best thing was Bateman’s crab man (which was pushing it) and his scenes with McCarthy.....otherwise it was an extremely ‘meh’ offering.

That was to be expected.

Comedies are often a way to laugh to our flaws and contradictions, that's why they're so fun. The characters are usually charming but at the same time very flawed people. The combination of charming and flawed is the flesh and bone of comedy.

This movie could have worked if they had portrayed the two main characters (for example) as charming and good intended but ultimately useless superheros. Sadly, that's not compatible with the current trend in Hollywood. White-males can't be portrayed as charming, and non-white-males can't be portrayed as flawed. It's a dead end.
