Couldn't the police/FBI trace the owner of the house?

When they eventually find the killer's house, I understand there's no fingerprints or identifying evidence there, but wouldn't the police or FBI be able to go to the city's records and find out who owns the house, who's paying the real estate taxes, the utility bills, etc.? I don't think this was addressed in the film.

Good point! It would be the easiest thing in the world to trace down the owner if they knew where he lived!!

I think that woman near the beginning standing in front of the house actually owned the place.

I assumed he was renting it, maybe even with fake details and paying in cash, a lot of landlords don't give a damn if the credentials check out as long as the rent is paid on time
