Why was Rami Malek feeling so guilty o after killing him? He was a serial killer so they could always justify that. I felt not much evidence was shown whether Jared was the killer. On the other hand, I thought Denzel could had been the killer. His behavior made him look guilty. But the end we understand why. The last 30 minutes ruined it for me. But otherwise I did feel the movie was gripping and interesting.

Its never confirmed if Jared Leto was the killer. The director dont think so. Its 50/50. Ie never explained.

And as we later learn, he never does find out.
No one does.
Even if he was the killer (he may well have been), a detective is supposed to solve the case, and present enough evidence for a jury to convict him, not finish him off like Judge Dredd.
Baxter (Malek) was shocked by his own reaction, feeling he had ruined his career. Deacon (Denzel) tried to help him cover it up. It was wrong either way.
Denzel also covered up another murder years before!
