I'm surprised that it's so highly rated

I just saw this film and I was bored out of my mind. It really was reminiscent of Shrek 3: uninspired, unimaginative, bad predictable jokes. This was really one of those films that goes through the motions. A film with a check-list and that doesn't have to be a bad thing necessarily.
Even the voice work was really badly done by Ferrell, Pitt and Hill; only Tina Fey and David Cross did a good job. Pity, I thought the plot was great, but the whole thing was without depth.

I've never really cared about the Pixar vs Dreamworks thing - who cares who made it and how do you even notice such a thing, but now I get it... Now I can spot a Dreamworks production miles away.

Disagree with all of this.

This movie is probably Dreamworks best in my opinion and I enjoyed it more than Pixar's recent output Up (not bad), Cars 2 (dreadful), and I'm not particularly interested in Brave from what I've seen of it so far. I thought Kung fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon were just so-so, and I haven't seen Puss in Boots, but this is one of my favorite animations of recent times. It may even be better than The Incredibles, the obvious rival from the Pixar camp.

Yeah, this was damn good stuff. Really enjoyed it. Polished animation, good story. One of the best in a while.

i liked it too

I HATE Shrek, but thought this was the best Dreamworks movie of them all. Only How To Train Your Dragon even comes close to this one.

Quote me one 'bad predictable joke.'

Best of these animated Pixar/Disney movies I've seen. Clever and entertaining. Sucks you didn't enjoy it.

I'm prepared to agree with you, to some extent.
The story wasn't really that interesting, and entertaining. It had some things going for it (smooth animation, some good characters), but it never delivered fully on the story. It felt predictable, and even the theme (villain-needs-a-hero-syndrome) was taken from the relationship between the Joker and Batman).

However, it did make me laugh sometimes. And like I said, some of the characters were kind of fun and interesting (Roxanne felt like a new take on the typical damsel in distress, though she was in a lot of distress).

All in all an okay movie. Nothing more, and nothing less.

6/10, in my book.

For my taste it was too generic. Take some typical animated funny movie cliché characters, the hot female journalist, the superhero, the bad guy, the yokel. Put some "cool" music in, ACDC, Guns N'Roses etc., Ironman-style, done.

There was no heart in the movie, no soul, I had no feelings for any character. Dead or alive, or in love, who cares? Megamind wasn't really funny, not parody-style funny, just stupid beyond imagination, just albern.

The Incredibles was way better, also Monsters vs. Aliens, and of course Despicable Me.

Hal just sucks. His character, face, hair, attitude.

Too much happy end. Minion should have really died. And Music Man too.

P.S.: Several times I had to think of the Simpsons episode with Poochie the dog, the new mega cool character for the Itchy & Scratchy Show.
Cool characters + cool music + cool 3D-animation and roller coaster rides with the camera = Megamind film.

The animation quality was flawless, the story okay, so I would give 7/10

I agree. There was just so much shoddy storytelling throughout the film. The art-direction seemed off. I wasn't sure if this took place in the future or not. There were some funny moments, though.
