75 guests to 200... Really!?!?

Something that has always bugged me about this movie, it may sound dumb but- Carrie tells Big that the guest list went from 75 to 200 because "the dress upped the ante", what does that even mean?!?! Ok, I can see maybe a handful of tacky people calling her up saying that they read about her upcoming wedding and want an invite, but 125!!! As if 125 uninvited people begged her for an invite to her wedding. Her phone would have been ringing off the hook and it would have driven her absolutely nuts! Yet in the movie we don't see a single person bug her for an invite. It just seems totally unrealistic to suggest that over a hundred people were hounding her to invite them to her wedding, people are not that crass, especially New York socialites.

Anyway, just something that's been bugging me about this movie.

~Oh look... a room full of men that have NO idea how to satisfy a woman.~

I think the 75 were closer friends/work friends plus their dates and when it jumped 125 it was Carries doing because she wanted a big wedding and more people to see her in 'the dress'. So those 125 could have been acquaintances and friends that weren't as close (Like Laney) and their dates.

I disagree. I think it jumped up to 200 because - c'mon- once you are featured in frickin' VOGUE magazine.....people she probably didn't even know became invited. They probably didn't (and wouldn't) ask HER directly---I'm sure it was people in the fashion industry and connections of Enid's (Candice Bergen) at Vogue. 200 ISN'T a lot. Not in that world! Everyone---even rich models, fashion designers and photographers want free dinner and drink at a "see and be seen" type event such as Carrie's wedding.

I have a friend in boring Ohio who isn't wealthy who (before she knew it) had a wedding guest list that swelled excessively. Mostly due to over-zealous parents who felt they owed it to THEIR friends, colleagues, and shirt-tail relatives to invite them.
