How wealthy?

How 'rich' are these women? I'm talking dollars here. They sure seem to all live lavish lifestyles, go to the right places, wear the right clothes (sort of). I know it's a movie but I've wondered about this since the beginning.
Any thoughts, anyone?

I'm guessing they are all making at least mid 6 figures.

Carrie could be a millionaire because she has 3 best selling books.

Miranda was a partner in a law firm eventually, so she definitely makes at least 6 figures. Even Steve ended up with his own bar, which is also a good money maker.

Samantha works in PR, no question that she's making at least 6 figures, and when she was Smith's manager doesn't that mean she gets like 5-10%? That definitely is in the millions range when he was doing movies.

Charlotte came from a rich family, but she sold art, and married a partner in a law firm as well.

I'd be surprised if anyone in the group makes less than $500k/yr...

reply

I highly doubt Carrie was a millionare. She couldn't afford to buy her apartment when it was being sold and borrowed the money from Charlotte. And I think she only needed $25,000. Didn't the loan advisor at the bank tell her she only had $400 in her account?

Carrie's financial situation changed when she published her book, which became a best seller. Her finances improved but I don't think she became a millionaire until she married Big.

Carrie is the least wealthiest

Carrie probably makes $75k a yr ... Since selling books probably more.

Miranda being a corporate lawyer and partner $250k

Charlotte is trust fund baby her husband owns his own law firm millionaire

Samantha is in pr and manager for a super star...millionaire

reply

Big probably makes millions a year.

reply

Ah.... Two points...Carrie COULD EASILY make way more than $75k/year with 3 wildly popular books.

If you watched the series, Charoltte was given that gorgeous apartment from her 1st husband Trey, who was the trust-fund baby AND a heart surgeon...but yes, her 2nd husband was wealthy too.

For NY, these apartments, clothes, etc... ARE realistic considering their careers AND circumstances.

I mean really, are you all from Iowa or something?!?!

reply

And I'm sure Miranda makes well over 250k/year. In NYC at a top corporate law firm that's nothing. I'm in a mid-size city in the Midwest (blah!) and trust me, even a partner level attorney here makes that! More usually!

However, having said that, it can also be relative to the cost of living in a given area. But even with that, one gets the idea that Miranda IS extremely successful at probably a highly-regarded firm---which would up her salary exponentially.

Carrie married a Millionaire, plus she has best selling books, so she made 6 figures after 10 years.

Miranda probably makes $250k

Charlotte comes from money and her husband has money. Id say $750k-$1 million a year

Samantha is a millionaire.

reply

I agree. Miranda def makes more than that at a NYC law firm. A friend of mine at a smaller firm in Sacramento makes that per year.

Whatchoo Lookin' At??

Plus since the part of the story when she had to borrow the money for her apartment from Charlotte, she also started working for Vogue who paid her 4,5 dollars per word. In the episode where she started working for them, they wanted a 500 words draft on a subject. If we assume that her column there would be 500 words / month, that'd make and extra 2250 dollars / month ie. 27000 dollars more / year. BUT, that's just on the assumption that she only writes 500 words/ month. If her column is longer the money is bigger too. If you add up her column, her books, and her Vogue work, and her boyfriend's money and gifts, that could lead to a very wealthy and posh lifestyle full of designer clothes, drinks out whenever she wants and everything.
