did think louise (jenifer hudson) was annoying?

i did.

reply

No, you're the first person ever to think that.

reply

that's really funny because i was just thinking the same thing. i really dont think her acting was that great.... pretty superficial. but thats just my opinion..

uh oh don't say that or else you'll be labeled as a racist (sarcasm)

Jennifer Hudson is so effing OVERRATED and has been from day one. Her role in SATC was pointless. I feel like the was just tossed in to earn a few black dollars...

reply

How is she overrated?

reply

Jennifer Hudson wasn't annoying. She has charm and star power. You want to watch her and feel positive towards her. She projects a friendly attitude, which might be real or it might be that she's a good actress (I think it's both).

However, the script was weak and her character was a throw-away character. She was a foil without any suggestion of an inner life.

The writers failed, not JHud.

star power? no

I have to agree, Jennifer Hudson's acting was not good. She seemed so dull and contrived. I was sort of embarrassed watching her scenes. Jennifer was still in her heyday when they cast her for this movie. That's the only reason she was in it, and of course to be the token black person that. Why bother. They never cared too much about putting black people on the series, so why start now.

completely agree, every time I watch this movie I cringe through all of her scenes. Horrible acting on her part, and her character (although meant to be Saint Louise) came off being annoying IMHO.

The character was hugely annoying. As a cynic I held off from watching this film, but then it was on the other night and I had nothing else to do.
As I was watching, I actually thought it wasn't too bad. Then that character came into it and the quality plummeted. I was cringing through her scenes - all that love crap - she was the epitome of the type of woman I would loathe to be, and the reason I had never watched these films. I thought the character was AWFUL. The scene with her and Carrie in the bar could have been cut, in my opinion. It was cloying and sickly sweet - and I was very tempted to stop watching then and there.

Jennifer Hudson definatly annoyed me in this movie. I agree that yes the writing for her part was not fantastic but her acting was also not upto par. One thing that annoyed me the most about her character was the fact that Carrie praises her so much during their last scene together. Throughout the series it has been the 3 girls who have always helped Carrie, and now, in possibly the hardest time of her life, they decided to bring in a random character as her saviour. Unfortunatly by doing so, they lost that closeness that the four girls have always had.

I like this movie. It's good. SATC 2 sucks balls, but this one is closer to the show than that one. But yeah, Jennifer Hudson RUINS it. Michael Patrick King even admitted that the only reason she is in the movie is so there can be a "sister" as he put it. I'm sorry, but that is pandering and a detriment to the movie. They should've just included more black characters in the show. They had a few memorable ones, like Robert, but for the big Apple, there were a lot of white people. They could've balanced that on the show instead of compromising the movie to include some character who serves no purpose to the story or anything. Instead, they throw in this bad actress (I've never seen Dreamgirls, y'all) with an annoying voice who says things like "I came to New York to fall in love!" and Carrie and co. are the same girls who are supposed to be standing in the corner smoking "like the witches of Eastwick." It was like a double-dose of Charlotte and no Miranda and Samantha on board. Come to think of it... where the hell was Charlotte? Since she had no plot line, she should've been the one to help ease Carrie out of her crisis!

INFURIATING.

At least the show is still good (for the most part - SJP during season 5 is wretched).

reply

I didn't get why she was added to the movie in the first place, although i did like her. However, I think they pretty much used her to promote the product placement for bagborrowsteal and Louis Vuitton. I don't think the acting was really that great. I liked her in "Dreamgirls" better.

reply

To earn a few "black dollars"? Some people say the most ignorant things it's incredible.

reply

I know, my eyes nearly fell out of my head when I read that! How long ago was the 60s'? Not to mention the Civil War? Yet, some things never change.

I thought the cliche about the interviewees being so unacceptable was quite bad enough, but the JH character was just a foil to Carrie. Someone for her to patronize. But then, isn't everyone?

At least, the character was portrayed as efficient and talented. Although the plot device about hiding the love letters from Big in another folder was contrived. When Carrie made it clear she didn't want to see them, she could have just deleted them. But then we wouldn't have had the lead up to the 'happy ending'. In SATC2 (a truly terrible movie), Big and Carrie are anything but happy. Even Charlotte whines about her home life. All first world problems, girls.

Come on writers, try to erase SATC2 from our memories and give us a decent follow up.

reply

The writer admitted he added her to appeal to the black audience so not really ignorant at all...

reply

Oh yeah I figured it was to appeal to the black audience which I appreciate as a minority myself but here is the problem: WHY NOT CAST SOMEONE WHO IS ACTUALLY LIKABLE AND HAS CHEMISTRY WITH SJP? Their whole dynamic just felt dull and forced.. they should have cast someone a little more "New York" and a little less "St. Louis" because it just seemed they had nothing in common aside from the shallow label obsession.

reply

Totally agree. I actually dont really get her character at all or why she was necessary. Most of the scenes she was in could have been between Carrie and one of her friends-why waste so much time on someone the audience doesn't know, doesn't want to know and who doesn't really add anything to the story?

reply

Totally agree!!!! I love the movie until she shows up. Her acting was awful! It would have been so much better with out her.

Don't take a baby to a movie.
